I believe you may be speaking of me... and no there is no substitute that I have found. Although there is a place in downtown SLC on 7th south & 7th east, called Banbury Cross. And they make a beautiful looking painted donut. Tastes decent, their donut holes are the bomb, and I like their cinnamon sugar. Stan never made a pretty donut, a hole, or cinnamon sugar donuts. But Stan DID make the chocolate bar, and for that he will always be #1 in my book.
I cannot tell you how many childhood memories I have of Stan, his son Stan, and the gals that used to work the counter.

I forgot to say that we discovered these when were at a funeral of a friend- he was a frequent customer and they made dozens and dozens for the funeral. So every time I go to Stans now I think of Richard. :o)

I drive by Stans twice a week, and I always want to stop- but have to limit myself to once a month or I'd be huge. You're right though, there's nothing like the glazed- ohh I want a donut!
