Sunsets and Mountains

Truth be told there are probably a lot of things you don’t know about me but today I’m going to divulge two of them.  These are things that Scott teases me about because he thinks they’re weird but I’m here to find out if I’m the only one.

1.  I don’t really care for most sunsets.  The oranges and the pinks.  Not a big fan.  It’s not like I hate them or think to myself, “God,  Why did you create such an ugly sunset?”  It’s nothing like that.  I just happen to prefer Second Coming sunsets the best.  You know with the billowing white clouds and the white and yellow and blue sky.  The kind that literally look like God could walk out of.  Those are my favorites.  And now that we have huge windows to look out at sunsets from I’m noticing that the Second Coming sunsets are pretty rare, which makes me love them even more. (btw This photo is nothing compared to what I see out my window, but it’s the closest I could find.  It’s not quite as spectacular as what I’m referring to here.)

2.  I do not like snow capped mountains.  I mean for reals.  Either cover them with snow or melt it all away.  I don’t like the half and half.  Make up your  mind already!  Is it Summer or is it Winter?  You tell me.  Green on the bottom, white on the top?  Geesh.  This one I have a firmer opinion on.  I just don’t like it.  I don’t like the indecision.  The middle ground.  One or the other, please. (These are the Wasatch Mountains but not quite the view from my house.  Still though, you get the point right?  White majestic mountains.  C’mon, you can’t tell me it’s not beautiful.)

Now I can’t be the only one on the face of the planet who has these interesting points of view.  Maybe you don’t agree with me.  I’m pretty sure you wont but seriously, is it that strange to like snow covered mountains the best or Second Coming sunsets over the usual, blah, seen it already yesterday sunsets?  I just don’t think so.

    I like sunsets.
I don’t like snow capped anything. Snow= cold and freezing. Anything with snow is bad. haha, that is why we are trying to get outta Utah. Quickly. :) But it’s true. We were at the Gateway yesterday and I noticed some snow capped mountains and I said to Chris, “See that? It’s almost freaking July. That needs to melt already.”

  2. Elaine Says:

1- I happen to like all sunsets… second coming and multicolored. But I don’t think you’re weird for not liking one…

2- I happen to like snow-capped mountains, but only from a distance. If you can see any of the muddy snow, then it’s gross.

I definitely think #2 has less to do with your view about snow-capped mountains, and more to do with your view about “all or nothing.” either you’re in or you’re out. you’re on one side of the fence or the other… you can’t sit on the fence, and you can’t stand in the doorway. no one likes a wishy-washy person. but hopefully you still like me, despite me liking snow-capped mountains. :)

  3. Aunt Carla Says:

I don’t think you are weird, just unique like the rest of us. There is nothing like a cloud with rays of sunshine, just shining brilliantly down on the earth. I like both kinds of sunsets. I told the kids when they were little that the pink clouds were like ‘cotton candy’.
I totally agree on the snow capped mountains. Its crazy to have snow almost all year round. What’s odd about me is I don’t like the snow on the ground in the valley. I can’t wait for it to melt. I say all the time, the snow belongs up on the mountain!

  4. Brandon Says:

I don’t have a preference as to the look of snow-capped mountains, but there are two things that I can appreciate about them. 1) The dynamics that allow them to stay snow-capped even while you are sitting there looking at them in 90 or 100 degree weather. 2) They represent a natural watershed. We would be in a world of hurt if there were no snow-capped mountains.

  5. Laura long Says:

    Bwa-ha-ha-ha I love you Alisa!

  6. Diane MacDonald Says:

Alisa, you are so funny. I like sunsets, but I don’t care for the really pink ones. As for the snow capped mountains, I agree it’s weird to see them in the middle of summer/hot weather. I don’t mind the look of them, except that sometimes here in Juneau anyway, the line of where the snow ends is totally straight and it looks ugly and annoying to me.

  7. Liz Boyd Says:

#1 You should appreciate the sun more, no matter what it makes the sky look like. WWJD? (in reference to your second coming comment)

#2 Yes snow capped mountains represent a natural watershed. I guess that is a good thing, but if they were totally dry, you and Scott could re inact the classic Mel Gibbson movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome right there in Utah!! You could be the Tina Turner “Queen of Barter Town” character. This is a win-win situation!!
